Second Saturday Seminar – 50 Shades of Gris: The History of Rosé
Second Saturday Seminar – 50 Shades of Gris: The History of Rosé
Rosé wines have a complicated reputation. In Europe, especially Provence, they are revered and celebrated culinary companions. In America, they are associated with semi-sweet translucent magenta wines that “serious” wine lovers turn their nose up at. But all of that has been changing and Rosé is making a comeback as a refreshing wine associated with warm summer weather and backyard barbecues — like our fan-favorite Lilly Rosé of Grenache!
In this month’s Second Saturday Seminar, we will explore the long history (it’s way, way longer than you’d imagine) of Rosé wines, their “evolution” from Provence’s Cote d’Azur darlings through the commercial avalanche of White Zinfandel to the re-emergence of table-worthy Rosés that are the fastest growing segment in the wine industry today while we taste along with our newest release of 2022 Lilly Rosé along-side a few of our library examples of Sparkling Lilly Rosé.
